For those following;  Anatomy of a Blacklisting, a thread in two blogs,  return to my other blog, In Bed With Frida Kahlo, and follow the thread, starting where you left off.  It’s not perfect chronological order, though if you wanted to you could take the time to follow both blogs that way.  I think you’ll get more than the gist of what transpired though, just by following this link:

http://inbedwithfridakahlo.wordpress.com/category/utla-human-rights-committee/page/2/  . Read the posts in reverse chronological order, starting with the post:  Diary Post: Carry lots of water, and watch out for rattlesnakes.

DEATH WISHES AND DEATH THREATS
In October a controversy erupted at UTLA over the Human Rights Committee decision to host an open meeting of the SDS/MDS (endorsed by Cafe Intifada and LAPLSC) to discuss boycotts, sanctions and divestiture (BDS) from Israel,

(To follow this thread from the beginning, go to:  https://cafeintifada.wordpress.com/category/anatomy-of-a-blacklisting/page/3/   and read the posts in reverse chronological order, starting with the link at the bottom of each page.)

Since then I’ve received two death threats by a person who identifies himself as Jeff L. (I have removed his last name, as I have not ascertained that he is the actual source of the threats.)
The first message was sent to my Cafe Intifada address cafeintifada@earthlink.net. a month ago.
The second one was sent to my personal address; emmarosenthal@earthlink.net yesterday, exactly one month later.
It has also been brought to my attention that my violent death has been the subject of discussion on some listserves. (if anyone has any information, please forward it to me, with all headers. –To find headers, in your email folder, go to view, click headers, select all and open an email… this is how emails are traced.)
One listserve message reads:
“Does din rodef apply in Emma Rosenthal’s case?”
a din rodef (Hebrew for a mandate to (kill) pursue,) is the religious verdict giving permission to a Jew to kill another Jew who has ceded land to the enemy. This was the justification for the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, issued by West Bank and Gaza Strip rabbis in the weeks preceding Rabin’s murder.

As safeguards, I have or am in the process of taking the following precautions:
There is a video surveillance system on my home with night vision and motion detection capabilities. (It sounds fancy, but it’s actually pretty easy to set up and a pretty good system can be obtained for under $1000.)
I also have an alarm system and a dog.
I have alerted my neighbors and friends.
I am in the process of moving to obtain even greater security and less isolation.
I don’t stay in the same place every night.
It is very hard to find my actual address. The address that “Jeff” thinks is mine, is actually the address to a hall Cafe Intifada and the LA Palestine Labor Solidarity Committee (LAPLSC) rented years ago, for a few events.)
I will be meeting with the local authorities tomorrow in the Mayor’s office in Baldwin Park (A friend of mine since 1994 when I was working against the anti-immigrant bill, 187.)
I will be reporting these threats to other authorities and am working with Cafe Intifada Advisory Board Member, Hussam Ayloush of the Council of American Islamic Relations, as he and CAIR have extensive experience in these matters and are in close contact with agencies that deal with these threats.
(Yes, I do understand the contradictions of working with law enforcement! But they already know so much about me, it’s sort of like being part of a large dysfunctional family!)
I’ve notified the organization that rented space to Cafe Intifada and the LAPLSC, so that they too can take appropriate precautions.
I’ve forwarded the emails to “Jeff’s” internet provider’s abuse department with complete headers so that they can determine if he has misused their usage contract. Most providers (Earthlink, Verizon, SBC Global etc) have an abuse department that can be reached by emailing abuse@providername.net. such as abuse@earthlink.net or abuse@sbcglobal.net
Most servers have contracts that expressly forbid hate speech and violent threats on their servers.
And
I’m letting people know, so they can keep an eye out for me, and help as they are able.
Andy reminds me, this all comes with the territory.
Peace with Justice,
Emma Rosenthal_Cafe Intifada!

Dear Ms. Rosenthal,

On the top of my wish list is an event, rather than an object. I
hope that in the new year one of your terrorist-sympathizer Islamist
cohorts “accidentally” sets off a vest bomb while you are having a
meeting with your “advisory board”. And better than actually killing
you, my wish is that it rips off your arms and legs, and disfigures
your face, and you live a long and miserable life. That’s the
activity your buddies support, and it seems only just that you taste
it yourself.

Jeff

Are you still alive? I would have thought you’d have blown yourself up, along with some Israelis. I’m glad you post your picture and “cafe” address: (E.R.: I’ve deleted the address. It’s not mine, but rather the address of the hall Cafe Intifada and the L.A. Palestine Labor Solidarity Committee rented for a few events, several years back.) I will recognize you, but, as your Pali pals know, since you don’t know who I am, I can get you whenever I want to!
